Ethics Policy

An affiliate publication has a structural conflict of interest: it is paid by some of the things it writes about. Pretending otherwise is the problem. This page sets out how we handle it.

The conflict, stated plainly

We intend to earn commission from operators we cover. That gives us a financial interest in readers signing up for some of them. Every safeguard below exists because of that interest, not in spite of it.

Independence rules

Coverage decisions are made before commercial ones. What gets reviewed is decided on whether readers are asking about it, never on whether it pays.
No operator gets copy approval. Nobody outside the publication sees a page before it goes live, reviews our wording, or is offered the chance to respond to a rating privately.
No operator can buy the removal of accurate criticism. Ending a partnership does not remove a documented fact from a page.
Commission rates are not an input to the rubric. See Methodology.

Personal holdings

Anyone writing about a specific asset must not trade it around publication in a way that could benefit from the coverage. Where holdings are material to a piece, they are disclosed in it.

Gifts and hospitality

We do not accept payment, gifts, travel, hospitality or free services in exchange for coverage, a rating, or a placement. A free trial account taken purely to examine a product is disclosed on the page where it is used.

What we will never do

Invent staff, biographies, photographs or credentials.
Publish a commissioned link without disclosing it on that page.
Let commission decide an order without saying so on the page.
Fabricate a fee, rate, payout term, price or user count.
Promote a presale or ICO as editorial.
Publish content that helps readers evade identity or financial controls.
Put affiliate links in Education or Security content.
Publish a business address or legal identity we have not verified.
Reuse another site’s copy as our own.
Misrepresent who — or what — wrote a piece.

Holding us to it

These are checkable claims, deliberately. If you find a page that breaks one, that is a reportable error and we will correct it in public on our Corrections log.
