What is a payout minimum?

The balance you must accumulate before a program will pay you anything.

Most affiliate programs hold your earnings until they cross a threshold — often between fifty and several hundred dollars — and only then release a payment.

Why it matters

A high minimum turns a decent rate into a long wait, and for a small publisher it can mean money sitting with the operator indefinitely. The risk is not only cashflow: an unpaid balance is exposure to the operator’s solvency and to its right to terminate. Read what happens to a below-threshold balance if the program ends or your account is closed — some agreements forfeit it entirely. Weigh the minimum against your realistic monthly volume rather than your hoped-for one.
