What is a rug pull?

A fraud in which a project’s operators withdraw the pooled funds and abandon it.

Typically the team retains the ability to drain liquidity or mint unlimited supply, waits for deposits, and then exits.

Why it matters

The warning signs are consistent and checkable before you commit: anonymous operators with no accountability, liquidity that is not locked, contracts that are unaudited or retain owner privileges such as unlimited minting or the power to freeze transfers, and marketing built on urgency and guaranteed returns. None of these individually proves fraud, and a project can carry all of them and merely be badly run — but each is a reason to require more evidence rather than less.
